THe Mayans were very advanced in astronomy. At the Mayan ruins site, the Mayans waited for the shadow of a serpent to go down the side of the pyramid of Chichen Itza. At the bottom is the figure of a serpent. When the shadow reached the bottom of the pyramid, which represented sunset.
The Mayan Decline
The Mayan decline has many different causes. These causes included: overpopulation, poverty, malnutrition, hunger, overpopulation, no annual census, deadly epidemics, and warfare. Usually, the Mayans fought against neighboring states and Spanish conquistadors. Many people believe that the Mayans collapsed because of environmental destruction, which was caused by overpopulation. No one person lived trough the whole Mayan decline because the decline lasted about one whole century(900-1000CE). This is one of the reasons why it is so difficult to figure out the main cause,(or causes) of the decline of the Mayan Empire.
